• SUPERINTENDENT THOMAS LEAHY—selected by the faculty of the Dept. of Educational Leadership at WIU as the Arnold Salisbury Leadership Award winner for 2005.  This award is given to graduates who demonstrate outstanding leadership ability and have completed an advanced degree from the Dept.

• BERRIAN, DEWEY, and WASHINGTON SCHOOLS—awarded the Spotlight Schools Award

• BERRIAN PARAEDUCATORS-awarded Illinois State Board of Education Award of Merit in the Those Who Excel award program

• HAROLD WALT designed and produced two musical activities entitled Famous Composers and Musical Instruments similar to musical bingo.

• Music teachers GAYLE TENHOUSE and JEAN MURRAY participated in the Clarinet Cornucopia  at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb as part of the Quincy All State Clarinet Choir

• FLINN STADIUM EARNS TOP HONORS Flinn Stadium was selected as a winner in Pioneer Manufacturing’s Field of Excellence recognition program.  This program recognizes outstanding athletic fields and the hardworking people who diligently maintain them.  Congrats to Kurt Knuf and crew.

• OUTSTANDING STUDENT OF ILLINOIS
  MARKISHA SHAW, 2004 graduate from the 14th Street Alternative School, was named the Outstanding Student of Illinois by the Illinois Coalition for the Education of At-Risk Youth 2005.

• Quincy Senior High School Quiz Bowl Team placed first in the Quincy University Academic Challenge.

• Mrs. Jurrens, 3^rd grade teacher at Adams School  is the recipient of this year's YWCA Woman of Achievement Award for Educators.  We are proud of you, Mrs. Jurrens!!

• JUDY McKINNEY—bus driver, received the first Department of Transportation Guardian Angel Award for her heroic efforts in performing the Heimlich maneuver on a child who was choking on an object while riding her bus.
